Martial Art Floor Installation Directions

Parts: 1 Vinyl Tarp & rolls of crosslink foam.

Step 1
Sweep the area where the floor will be laid down and lay out a 1x4 perimeter or frame. The frame should be fastened to the floor with screws or a nail gun depending upon floor type.

Step 2
Roll out the foam and cut it into size to fit inside the frame. Leave a minimum of 1” of space between the foam and the frame to allow the foam to “spread out” and prevent buckling.   (If you don’t give foam room to “grow” it may cause the foam to lift.) Use duct tape to cover the seams and don’t glue the foam to the floor.

Step 3
Spread out the tarp and prepare for stapling. If you have the time it is a good idea to let the tarp sit out overnight to get rid of some of the wrinkles.

Step 4
Prepare to start stapling. (A pneumatic stapler works best but an electric stapler also can be used.) Start in the centers of all sides and work your way to the corners so you can avoid problems when you get to the corners. Staple in 2-3 foot increments. (You don’t want anyone standing on the tarp while you are doing this.) It’s best to use one person to staple and a second person to pull the tarp.

Step 5
Prepare your top 1x4’s. We suggest routing the edge and sanding them for a clean look. You can also paint or stain the top boards before you install them to prevent any paint from getting on the floor.

10 Seamless Flooring Tips

Here are some tips to help in the installation of Seamless Flooring.  They are in no particular order so read them all before you begin installing the floor.

  1. Open up the tarp as soon as possible.  The tarp is shipped folded up and wrinkles can become permanent if left longer than 7-10 days.
  2. Spread out tarp over the floor area and leave it for 24 hours.  This step is not mandatory but it helps in getting any wrinkles out of the tarp material.
  3. Measure the tarp and all foam before you get started and as soon as possible after deliver.
  4. Floor surface should be smooth and level.  No need to remove previous flooring such as carpet or tile as long as the surface is even.
  5. Do not glue the crosslink to the floor.
  6. Use duct tape to hold crosslink foam together.  (2” wide works great)
  7. Don’t worry about foam seams.  Once the tarp covers the foam you will not see or feel them.
  8. Leave a minimum of 1” gap between crosslink foam and inside of wood frame.  This allows the foam to “spread out” and prevents buckling.
  9. If you have a post on your floor do that area first.  Staple around the post first making sure the rest of the tarp is in position.
  10. When you staple start in the centers of all sides and work your way out toward the corners.  (3’ increments work great.)

MARTIAL ARTS SEAMLESS FLOORING
INFORMATION & ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

NOTE: READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.

MatMerchant.com Martial Arts Flooring consists of two components.  Filler is 1-3/8” thick cross-linked polyethylene. This foam is produced in sheet form with each sheet measuring 6 wide by 42’ long. Sheets are rolled to take advantage of the most economic shipping rate. You will receive at least the exact number of square feet needed to cover the area you provided us on a measurement sheet

Foam filler can be easily cut to size using a utility knife. You will be responsible for determining the proper dimensions of finished pieces as well as configuring ad cutting them to fit properly.

Vinyl Cover material is manufactured exactly to dimensions you provide. Covers are rolled, folded and banded to a pallet for shipment. Because we use only heavy-duty 18 oz vinyl fabric for covers, you must unpack and unroll the cover immediately upon receipt to prevent material from becoming permanently wrinkled or creased.

MatMerchant cannot be responsible nor will it be obligated to replace or repair the cover should you disregard this instruction.
